Starting Yoga
Yoga has been practiced and studied for thousands of years. What we see today is mix of yoga, movement, stretching, dance, breathing, meditation and relaxation techniques. These have come from different traditions around the world to be what we understand as modern yoga today. Traditionally yoga came out of India. In essence at Raw Yoga we follow Patanjalis 8 fold path of yoga. The main focus you will find in most Modern yoga classes with be Asanas (postures) , Pranayama (Breath work) and Dharana (Meditation). New to Yoga Starting a Yoga asana practice takes courage and Motivation. knowing where to start takes understanding and research. Yoga translates as Union, finding balance within ones self and the world in which we live. With so many different types it can be overwhelming where to start, Yoga offers tools to cultivtae balance, strength, flexibility in both body and mind. Different people and schools have had their influence of creative ideas and wisdom which have enhanced the practice and the varieties we see today. At Raw Yoga most of our classes offer Yoga movement, Breath awareness practices and meditation. Everyone needs something a little different to come back to a place of ease and balance, as we move through life we require various different things and we believe yoga can help you start to speak the language of the body (and more importantly what the body needs) . HOW TO GET STARTED
Everyone decides to start yoga for a different reason. Firstly be clear on why you want to start Yoga. Secondly what is it you want out of a yoga practice. If you are feeling nervous or anxious about getting started we suggest contacting us first for a chat. This way we can work together to find out what will work best for you. If you are working or recovering from an injury we also suggest contacting us to have a chat about how we can support the recording injury. Your Options to get started (Optional) 1. Book a 'Yoga Check' Intro session (30 mins for $30) with one of our instructors) 2. Discover which classes will work best for you. 3. Book your classes and away you go! The best group classes to get started with are our Beginner/Vinyasa (L1-2) classes, Slow Flow classes and Yin and Nidra Class. These move at a slower pace and offer more explanation on the different postures. |
